Health/Continuing Care Assistants (HCAs) are the eyes and ears of the frail and vulnerable. HCAs, also called health care aides, have employment opportunities in a variety of settings, including hospitals and care homes. They support patients with ambulation, meal assistance/nutrition, personal care (bathing, toileting, dressing and grooming), medication monitoring, communication, and end-of-life care.

Program Overview

Health/Continuing Care Assistants (HCAs) are the eyes and ears of the frail and vulnerable. HCAs, also called health care aides, have employment opportunities in a variety of settings, including hospitals and care homes. They support patients with ambulation, meal assistance/nutrition, personal care (bathing, toileting, dressing and grooming), medication monitoring, communication, and end-of-life care. They work directly with clients across the lifespan who have a variety of health care needs and you will become an important and respected member of the healthcare team.

The Health/Continuing Care Assistant program provides knowledge and skill development in helping people to help themselves in their homes and special care facilities. You will receive training in: gerontology, dementia management strategies, applying the philosophy of long-term care into home care, special care and community settings, promoting independence in a safe environment, working with people from all cultures, working with individuals with different levels of physical and cognitive impairment, giving personal care, and attending to psychosocial needs.

Our curriculum is designed to provide students with the necessary competencies and insights crucial for success across a diverse role in medical laboratory science. The program encapsulates a comprehensive range of subjects, including anatomy and physiology, introduction to primary health care, oral health, occupational health and safety, health care administration, first aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation, business management and career skills

Admission Requirements

SSCE/UTME

Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) credits in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent, which must include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at not more than two (2) sittings.

National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) is accepted and stands on its own with credits in at five (5) subjects i.e Physics,Chemistry, Biology, English Language, and Mathematics in not more than two (2) sittings.

The College shall conduct written examinations and oral interviews for applicants as the basis for admission.
