SURGICAL/THEATRE TECHNOLOGY (SGT)
Overview
Surgical technicians, also called operating room technicians, work alongside and assist surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare team members throughout a surgical operation. They engage in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative job duties that include preparing the operating room, securing supplies, setting up equipment and instruments, anticipating the surgeon’s needs during the surgical procedure, passing instruments, fluids and supplies, and monitoring and assessing room conditions. Surgical Technicians are responsible for maintaining the sterile field and being constantly vigilant that all operating room team members adhere to the proper sterile technique.
Our Biomedical Engineering Department offers a 12-month certificate program in Surgical/Theater Technology. This will enable you to work in hospital theatres. Your education will involve a blend of online, classroom, and clinical/hands-on training, all of which will make you very competent and confident to deliver safe care
